Tess Newall specialises in decorative interiors and hand-painted homewares. Operating from a creative workshop in East Sussex, Tess and her team create bespoke murals, hand-painted furniture and decorative homewares for both private and commercial clients, working alongside some of the world's leading interior designers.

Pierrot Studio is a children’s furniture and homewares brand creating unique, hand-painted products, designed and decorated by our in-house team of artists and designers.

The Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated Product Designer to join our growing team. Working from our studio in East Sussex, this is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of a highly creative team, providing support across all areas related to the product side of the business, including product development and brand collaborations.

The ideal applicant would be a skilled, mid-level to senior designer with 3-5 years' experience in a computer-based, design-led role and preferably with a degree in textile or surface pattern design. The position is suited to someone comfortable working in a busy and fast paced studio, with a strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to all areas of design.

Working closely with Creative Director Tess and our Product Development Manager, this person will see creative briefs through from initial concept to completion. The scope of the role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working on design development for all product, including wallpapers (digitally and surface printed), fabrics, mirrors, lampshades, and our growing collection of homewares. This development includes a mixture of in-house designs and exciting brand collaborations, e.g embroidered braids and hand-painted tiles
  • Translating our hand-painted in-house artworks into working wallpaper designs alongside sourcing and reworking historical archive prints
  • Creating digital mock ups and design proposals to present internally and externally to our suppliers/collaborative brands, including colour palette and pattern designs
  • Preparing technical packs including clear instructions to send to suppliers
  • Keeping digital design files clear and organised throughout the project duration and maintaining an organised log of revisions
  • Briefing junior artwork team on supporting tasks
  • Site visits to suppliers for trial printing and strike offs
  • Managing our in-house digital image library and pattern reference archive

Role Requirements:

  • A relevant degree in design and a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a similar design-led role, preferably textile or surface pattern design
  • Knowledge and experience on how to create seamless pattern repeats, and a keen eye for both colour and detail
  • Creative thinking and focus - the role requires clear, independent thinking and creative initiative
  • Teamwork and a resourceful ‘can-do’ attitude - this role relies on working closely with many members of the team
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Multi tasking - this is a varied role and requires someone who is highly capable, and able to manage a variety of tasks at once, with time-pressured deadlines
  • Excellent computer and technology experience - A strong proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator is essential. Knowledge of InDesign and Premiere Pro, as well as the ability to prepare artwork separations for printing, would also be ideal
  • A keen interest in interiors and in-depth knowledge of the industry
  • The role is studio based and due to our rural location, a car is essential
