QUEENS GATE MEWS

Decoration of the stairwell and adjoining bedroom and study in an 1850s mews house. When our client took on the project only the exterior walls remained, and they expertly crafted a four-storey interior to feel correct to the period.

Our brief was to add handpainted detailing with a sensitivity to the historical character of the building. The stairwell garland draws inspiration from Carl Larsson's 19th century home in Sundborn, and the tonal bedroom border is inspired by detailing found on joinery in Tureholm Castle. The study decoration references a shield motif on the reclaimed period fireplace. Each border works to bring texture to the rooms, adding to the historic atmosphere of the place.
