Westchester Cabin

Decoration of a 19th century Gustavian serpentine commode for a house in a village in Westchester County, New York. Our brief was to decorate the commode in a Swedish style, using a limited palette of terreacotta reds and Scandinavian greens. Layers of colour washes add to the character of the piece and celebrate its age and patina. The commode serves to provide both a practical function and a handpainted texture in a masterfully layered scheme.
