QUEENS GATE MEWS

Decoration of the stairwell of an 1850s mews house. When our client took on the property only the exterior walls remained, and they crafted a four-storey interior to feel correct to the period. Our brief was to add handpainted detailing witha sensitivity to the historical character of the building. The stairwell garland draws inspiration from a bedroom in Carl Larsson's19th centuryhome in Sundborn. We built up layered washes directly onto raw restoration plaster, celebrating its texture and imperfections and addingto the historic atmosphere of the place.
