KIPS BAY SHOWHOUSE

Decoration of the fireplace in Kit Kemp's A Dining Room of One's Own in Kips Bay Showhouse, New York. Renowned for their English whimsy and eccentricity, this jewel-box of a room was designed to transport guests to the English countryside. The mural was the focal point of the design, and references the collective of artists and writers known as the Bloomsbury Group. The mural is inspired by the fireplace in their Sussex home, Charleston Farmhouse, which was decorated by Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell 1941-45.
