Designed by furniture maker Alfred Newall, these solid oak bobbin lamp bases are a contemporary take on 17th century “Spool” furniture. Hand-turned in Sussex, each piece is unique and celebrates the individual character of the wood. 

Available in three heights: Baby, Bedside and Grand, with lampshade sizes to match.

Baby Bobbin: 13cm base diameter, 32.5cm height (to top of light fitting), pair with our 8" lampshades

Bedside Bobbin: 16cm base diameter, 42.5cm height (to top of light fitting), pair with our 10" lampshades

Grand Bobbin: 16cm base diameter, 51.5cm height (to top of light fitting), pair with our 12" lampshades

Fitted with antique gold 3 core flex, with a choice of UK, EU or US plug

Production

Made from solid oak, the bobbin components are hand-turned in Sussex on a traditional wood lathe. Simultaneously spinning and shaping, it begins square and through careful use of a chisel, the sequence of bobbin rounds are formed. Each piece is unique and celebrates the individual grain patterns found in the timber.
